I hope everyone is enjoying the month of August. It's not exactly my favorite
month of the year but knowing that the autumn is right around the corner makes it easier for me to deal with. I haven't been posting much lately since my boys
are done with their camps so I've become "camp counselor mommy"!
I have been trying to squeeze in a few pictures here and there
so here's the latest!
When we moved into our home, like many others, it was a blank canvas.
White walls, minimal trim, unless you wanted to pay the builder a ridiculous
amount of money to have it upgraded. Needless to say, we did it ourselves once
we were settled. One of our big projects to was add wainscot to our
foyer and one large wall in the family room. What an amazing difference it made
to a somewhat large and boring white room!
Unfortunately, I can't find the before pictures to post, but just picture
this a blank white wall! This is the best I could come up with....after wainscot,
before painting.
The wall gallery in the foyer took me about a year to put together.
We decided to use a lot of our ancestral family pictures to display since
Mr. Country and I are both very sentimental.
This wall turned out the be an amazing conversation piece when people
come over.
We had the walls pained BM Chestertown Buff. Since the walls are 17 ft. tall we
had someone do the painting.
While we had the miter and table saws out we decided that chunking up the front door would look great. We took down the standard moulding, added fluted around the door and built a mantel for the door header. Not only did this even out my door heights it added so much character to a once boring front door!
My friend that lives around the block from me ended up hiring someone to do the same exact work that Mr. Country and I did in the family room and foyer. She paid $5,000.00. We just paid for supplies! Boy, doing it yourself sure does save you a fortune!
Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed the tour of my foyer.

Hi Marianne...
ReplyDeleteOhhh yes...what a difference that adding the wainscot and mantel to your entry door...made to your entry! It's gorgeous, my friend! And...I love the soft yellow wall color that you chose! Love, love, LOVE your ancestry gallery wall! I still love the chunky, ornate gold frames! Just perfect!!! Thank you for sharing more of your fabulous home with us today!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous Marianne!! LOVE the gallery wall and the wainscoting is stunning!! Following you and would love if you followed me! Have a great weekend, Martina
ReplyDeleteLove your gallery wall! I am working on one as well. It will take me awhile though to collect all the empty frames I want.
ReplyDeleteMarianne, Your family gallery looks sooo good. I love seeing, old and new, family photos in a home. It just seems to make a house more 'personal'.
ReplyDeleteYour choice of frames and placement really are the look I love.
You did such a great job on your wainscotting, too. I'm impressed.
Hugs,
Babs
Oh, Marianne! You are soooo a girl after my own heart! Our color choices and styles are so similar and I've been wanting to do wainscoting going up our staircase too. We also have a huge 2 story entry and had to hire someone to paint it! I absolutely LOVE your gallery wall and we are so glad you shared this with us at Inspiration Friday and that you enjoyed being featured too! :-)

Wow gorgeous! I love your gallery wall. It took me a couple years to get ours up too. I really wish I took the time to paint when we moved in, but being a military family we never know when we're going to move. I will paint our next home!
ReplyDeleteI saw your comment about your SIL my prayers are with her. Cancer sucks!
What a beautiful space! Everything you did made it amazing and such a gorgeous look right as you enter. Love it! Thanks for linking it to Home Sweet Home!

Love what you did with the family photos and the wall color and the front door - gorgeous! Fortunately, I am married to Mr. DIY, too, and we do a lot of things otherwise costly! I also enjoyed your books and blue and white in a previous post. Beautiful blog! Linda (I'm not sure if I am a follower because I can't see any of that info on my blog anymore, however, if I'm not, then I am now!)
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous! I love this space, the paneling on the wall, the art the color. Beautiful. I hope you will come show this off at my VIP Party today. http://designergarden.blogspot.com/2011/08/vip-party-22.html
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. I love meeting fellow bloggers. You are right about how much can be saved by doing things yourself. You did a fantastic job on your foyer. The color is so cheery, warm and inviting. Have a good weekend!! Shannon
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! I have always felt like my own two story foyer needed something..and it may be exactly what you did over your door.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! Your entry is very similar to my own entry, and I have been inspired by your front door and wainstcotting!! Love it!
