Frenchy Monogramed Pillow

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July Holiday.  We were busy with the boys, fireworks, movies, parties and lots of fun things that boys like to do.

I've been in the sewing mood lately but since I don't have much free time I thought that I would just whip up some new pillows.  That would be an easy update in trying to tone down the formality in my home.  I first started out with a painters tarp but when I went to the fabric store to buy some black brush fringe they had some of this lovely plain Frenchy fabric that I just had to have! Needless to say, my plans changed.  I bought 1 yard at $22.00  and that will make 2, 17" square pillows.

I cut two matching 18" squares, one for the front and one for the back.

Than I decided that a monogram would be fun so my little guy Nicholas and I took a rode trip to Michael's where he decided that this was the appropriate letter size and style for the pillows.
How could I say no!

I bought black fabric paint and using a stencil brush just dry brushed the paint onto the fabric.

This is the actual color of the fabric.

I pinned the black brush fringe onto the right side (or good side) of the fabric and than sewed it on.  I sewed the trim using a 1/2" seam on all 4 sides.  This made the pillow case 17" by 17".  The down pillow  is 18" by 18", yes, it's larger and this makes the finished product look nice and fluffy.

After I was done sewing the trim I took the back side of the pillow, pinned it to the right side and sewed it around leaving about a 10" opening that I  used to stuff the pillow into.

After stuffing the pillow into the case I hand sewed the 10" opening to close it up!

And here we have it....a new pillow!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
