Revamped Dining Room

My dining room has gone through many changes in last few years.  I just can't seem to make up my mind.  For years I had it painted a deep burgundy with blue accessories than went to red and I felt like I lived in the American flag room.  Are red rooms even in style anymore? Needless to say I got out the paint brush and paint can and started to paint away.....again!

I painted the walls BM Adams Gold which I really like, and the ceiling a BM custom color...now this was 3 years ago.  I still had the formal Lenox china and silly knick knacks in the china closet.  I am really not a formal person at all but when we moved into this house I just couldn't see it decorated in country primitive.

So, I decided to lighten it up a bit....at least until I can decide what to do with the furniture.  I went white and blue, of course.  I'm really liking this lighter look.

I'll definitely keep it through the summer.

We bought this furniture set at an antique store about 12 years ago.   It is very dark mahogany.  I loved it at the time but really want to replace it with something  lighter and not so formal.  Mr. Country won't let me paint it so we are thinking about selling the set eventually and getting something more appropriate for entertaining with two little boys.

This is the buffet, I changed out the lamps for a simpler lamp base
with  black shades.

I brought out my garage sale soup tureen to display with my transferware.
 Isn't she pretty!

Thanks so much for stopping by and touring my dining room.  Believe it or not, I'm in the process of changing everything again, YES, you heard right.  I've had all of this toile for 10 years and am really tired of it. And I would love to see more color than blue in my home.  I got this beautiful fabric for the dining and living room windows which I will be making panels with......12 in all.  My color scheme is going to be red, green, and tan. WOW, what a change.  I will still incorporate my blue transferware into the new design.  This project will take some time since chairs also need to be redone.  But please don't tell my Mr. Country what I have up my sleeve!

Thanks so much for stopping by,

  1. I love the new, lighter look! It's so airy and fresh. I think your dishes look fantastic on display! I have a red dining room and my husband is not going to be happy when he hears that I'm thinking about changing it! Change is good!!

  2. I really love the changes Marianne! I so relate to what you are doing because my dining room (and most of my house) is fairly traditional and yet I am trying to lighten and brighten at the same time. It can be tricky! When you are working with existing pieces you can only do so much. But what you are doing is just lovely and I can't wait to see the new fabric! :-)

  3. I think we are living parallel lives! My dining room was done in a yellow/gold and red toile by the previous owners. I have had the hardest time changing it, as I'm certain the wallpaper and curtains were very expensive. 15 years ago, this room was probably "it."

However, this is the year for change! I want to paint the walls a blue or green, and get a more casual dining table. Can't wait to see what you do with yours. I think your blue transferware is beautiful and will go with lots of color schemes. Good luck!!

  8. I think you did a great job making things feel lighter. Love the plates on the wall. I have a dark dining room set too...my husband inherited it so there isn't much hope of me ever painting it. I know how you feel about your tastes changing. I would love to sell everything I have and start over again!
